Translation
With every species within the galaxy having different methods of communication, and different physiology, it can be very difficult to communicate. Just about every species has their own form of translation software, but like any program, nothing is perfect.
The Xajuyn Chip
The Xajuyn have what is considered the best translation technology in the known galaxy (aside from telepathy), and as a result, most other programs aren't developed with much gusto.
Not much is known about how the Xajuyn chip works, as they keep that knowledge very proprietary, but it is a tiny microchip that is injected into the brain of the user, and over time, the chip assimilates into their biology, and greatly expands the language learning abilities of the brain. Some chips come pre-programmed with languages, but the more languages included, the higher the price of the chip.
Even without any languages included, the user will be able to pick up the understanding of any language they see or hear, over time, but astronomically accelerated than if they tried to learn without it. Instead of it taking years or decades to become fluent in a language, if fully immersed, they can pick it up in just a couple of weeks.
If the user's physiology allows them to replicate the noises, they will generally be able to speak the language, but since the use of the Xajuyn's Chips are so widespread, it's not necessary - if everyone can understand the spoken or written word of every language used around you, one can just speak in their native tongue and be understood.
